Interviews set for Sept. 2 and 4 for the 38 Board applicants

The Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education has announced how it will proceed with filling two vacant seats.
Interview dates are set for Tuesday, Sept. 2 and Thursday, Sept. 4 starting at 6 p.m. each night. Candidates will have five minute interviews. The board received 39 applications for the two vacant positions. One person already confirmed they do not live in the district and are not eligible to fill a vacancy.
All the interviews will be held in the boardroom at the district’s Administrative Service Center, 18700 Audette St., Dearborn. The sessions are open to the public to watch and will be streamed on the district’s YouTube Channel.
The Board of Education has until Sept. 10 to fill the first vacancy.
Dr. Maleyko selected as next State Superintendent

Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Glenn Maleyko has been selected to be the next State Superintendent of Michigan.
The State of Michigan Board of Education held interviews for their three finalists for the job on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025. After a brief discussion on Tuesday evening, the eight member board voted 5-3 in favor of offering the position to Dr. Maleyko.
Dr. Maleyko is starting his eleventh year as Superintendent of Dearborn Public Schools and his thirtieth year in the district. State Board of Education President Dr. Pamela Pugh will now negotiate a contract with Dr. Maleyko.
No official dates have been announced for when Dr. Maleyko will step down in Dearborn or start the state position. The district will share more information as it becomes available including any details regarding a search for a new Superintendent.
Premier Citizen Card offers older residents free admission to sporting events and concerts

Dearborn Public Schools is continuing its tradition of encouraging older residents to attend school events by offering free admission and other special discounts via the Premier Citizen Discount Card.
District residents age 60 or older can stop in to any Dearborn Public School or the Administration Service Center, 18700 Audette St., Dearborn, to pick up this year’s Premier Citizen Discount Card. Those who already have cards will notice they expire next month – Sept. 30, 2025 – so they are encouraged to stop in and pick up a new card. The Dearborn Public Schools District includes all of Dearborn and a section of Dearborn Heights. (See the map.)
The Premier Citizen Discount Card is free and provides free admission to most school-sponsored activities including concerts and athletic events at the home school. Discounted tickets are available for plays and musicals, which are not free because schools must pay for performance licenses.
District service helps connect students and families to mental health providers

Students, staff and their families who may be struggling with mental health, substance misuse or social-emotional issues now have another resource to find help.
Dearborn Public Schools has contracted with Care Solace to help those in need connect with local counselors and other resources.
Care Solace can help people quickly find treatment options matched to their needs regardless of the circumstance. The service is free and confidential, provided to students, staff, and their families by Dearborn Public School District. Care Solace’s team is available around the clock every day of the year and can support clients in any language.

Meet our Superintendent
Dr. Maleyko has successfully completed 10 years as the Superintendent of Dearborn Public Schools with almost 20,000 students and 2,700 employees.
During his tenure, graduation rates in Dearborn have climbed to 95 percent district-wide and student college admission rates are 80 percent, well above the state average.
